Constructora do Tâmega S.A.

Constructora do Tâmega S.A.

Founded in January 1946 in Amarante, Porto district, Constructora do Tâmega S.A. is one of the largest companies in the Civil Construction and Public Works sector in Portugal. In the year of its founding by Joaquim da Fonseca, dedicating the company to the construction and public works, Mota & Companhia was founded by António Mota focused on woodworking. Although they had matching partners, the two companies went their separate ways. Unlike Mota & Companhia, Constructora do Tâmega would concentrate its attention on the mainland of Portugal. Its first work would be precisely in the infrastructure sector, with the adjudication of the fourth section between Valado and Alcobaça of the EN8. In the 1950s and 1960s the company began its internationalization, expanding its activity first to the colonies, namely Mozambique and Angola, and later to other areas of the globe, such as Spain, Jordan and Côte d'Ivoire.
