Profile

Strabag is the result of the merger of two companies, one German and one Austrian, in 1998. The first, called Baumeister Lerchbaumer-Isola-KG, was founded in 1929 by Anton Lerchbaumer and his son-in-law Franz Isola. With the death of Anton Lerchbaumer Sen-ior, Franz Isola became the sole partner of one of the largest Austrian construction com-panies. Consequently in 1968, when Franz Isola passed away, Anton Lerchbaumer Jun-ior was becoming in charge of the company. The company became known as "ILBAU AG" from 1972. The second company, called "Strassenwalzenbetrieb" was founded in 1895, however, from 1930 onwards it became known as "Strabag". It was not until 1998 that the two companies would merge under the name "BIBAG Bauindustrie Beteiligungs Aktiengesellschaft", which would later change it to "Strabag SE". The company joined the Vienna Stock Exchange in that same year. Operating in different specialties, the compa-ny is divided in construction and civil engineering, infrastructure and transport, and, final-ly, Concessions. The company's main projects include the North Sea Alte Weser Light-house, completed in 1964, Iraq's Basra International Airport, completed in 1988, the Co-penhagen Metro in Denmark, completed in 2002, the Manapouri Tunnel, in New Zea-land, completed in 2002, and the Second Terminal of Sofia Airport, Bulgaria, completed in 2006.
