Occupation Entrepreneur Biographical Text João Manuel Saturnino Moniz da Maia was a Portuguese businessman. He married Maria Helena Camacho Simões Moniz da Maia. He was the founder of the company "Moniz da Maia, Serra &amp; Fortunato", future MSF. Son of fellow entrepreneur Bernardo Ernesto Moniz da Maia, he followed his father's footsteps in the construction world, having spent most of his professional life in construction and public works. His and Pompeu Fortunato’s company, the other founding partner, was one of the largest in the sector. He was also linked to the banking sector and, together with Pompey, they were the largest shareholders of BCP (Banco Comercial Português) at the time of its founding, with about 10% of the capital. In 1987, however, in what was the bank's first major shareholder crisis, they came out with a considerable profit, and their shares were largely bought by Américo Amorim. The departure of the two partners from MSF resulted in one of BCP's first lawsuits. His banking experience extended also to Banco Totta and a partnership with the Espírito Santo Group. Also as an entrepreneur, João Moniz da Maia was responsible for investments in the real estate sector in Benavente and in the tourism and services sector through the purchase of a stake in Tivoli Hotels.
